A Perfect Day in Southport: Supporting Local, One Bite (and Sip) at a Time
Winey Friends recently set out for a relaxing day in the charming coastal town of Southport, North Carolina — and what better way to unwind than by savoring the best the local scene has to offer and #ShopLocal?

We began our adventure at Southport Sourdough, where we loaded up on an irresistible selection of fresh-baked treats. Our tray included their White Chocolate Mini Baguette (a sweet-and-savory dream), the classic Original Sourdough loaf, and a crisp, golden Sourdough Baguette — all crafted with love and tradition.
Next, we made our way to the Southport Cheese Shoppe. The knowledgeable and friendly staff never steer us wrong, guiding us through their impressive selection with spot-on recommendations and generous samples.

This time, our standout picks included a rich, creamy gouda and the ever-popular Prairie Breeze white cheddar. A fan favorite for good reason, Prairie Breeze is a cheddar like no other — slightly sweet with bold flavor, crumbly yet creamy, and speckled with a delightful crunch from naturally formed calcium crystals during the aging process. It was a palate-pleasing highlight!
With our artisanal bread and cheese selections in hand, we continued down the street to Uncorked by the Sea, a local wine shop that feels like home the moment you walk in.
Belated Bastille Day Celebration
Bastille Day, celebrated annually on July 14, commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789—a turning point in the French Revolution and a lasting symbol of liberty.
The team at Uncorked by the Sea extended the celebration a little longer with a special evening dedicated to the spirit of French freedom and culture.

Guests enjoyed a thoughtfully curated tasting of French wines, each selected to highlight the diversity and richness of France’s wine regions:
Domaine Franck Besson Rosé Granit – Beaujolais, France
Moulin de Gassac Picpoul de Pinet – Languedoc, France
Domaine Gérard Fiou “Just Fiou” Sauvignon Blanc – Loire Valley, France
Jean-Michel Dupré Morgon “Vignes de 1935” – Beaujolais, France
It was a memorable toast to liberté, égalité, and fraternité—à votre santé!

As we clink our glasses one last time, we were reminded of how special a day can be when it's rooted in community, flavor, and a touch of celebration. From warm, crusty loaves to bold, beautifully aged cheeses and vibrant French wines, every stop along our Southport stroll was a testament to the passion and pride of local makers. Whether you're a fellow foodie, wine lover, or simply in search of a slower pace, Southport invites you to savor the moment—one bite and sip at a time.

On the way home, we made one final (and delicious) stop at Haven Coffee & Gelato for a scoop of their authentic Italian gelato. With flavors like Pistachio, Stracciatella, and Sea Salt Caramel, it was the perfect sweet ending to a day full of local love.
Next time you're in town, take a leisurely walk down Howe Street and let your senses lead the way. By supporting these beloved small businesses, you're not just enjoying world-class flavor — you're helping to keep Southport’s unique charm alive. Come hungry, leave inspired, and always shop local!
