Charlie T. Locklear Vineyard and Winery
Charlie T. Locklear Vineyard and Winery is not your vast commercial winery that entices you with music and food trucks. It is a small family owned and operated vineyard by Charlie, Charlie Jr., and Daryl. The father and son team grow, harvest, produce and bottle all their wines. They took a small part of the farm and planted Muscadine grapes and converted an old building into their wine production facility. We visited in July and it was hot. There is little seating inside so be prepared if you stay a while to sit outside. Charlie T served samples of his wines for free. This is the only winery we have visited that tastings were free. All the wines are on the sweet side. Charles enjoyed the Noble Semi-sweet. I am not much of a sweet wine drinker, but I did enjoy the Love in a Bottle, a seasonal fruit wine. Locklear is worth stopping by for a visit. I love hearing the stories of how wineries came to be and their story is worth hearing.
