Cane Creek Vineyards
We visited Cane Creek Vineyards in Young Harris, Georgia this summer when we spent a long weekend exploring the Georgia Wine Highway. We arrived in a downpour and getting from the car to the front door was going to be an adventure. As soon as we were out of the car the tasting room manager waved us through the back door. This welcoming act set the tone of the entire visit. Cane Creek is truly a team effort from the owners, wine makers, farmers and tasting room staff. All the wines are estate wines. Once we decided on our tasting we moved outside to the Tuscan patio (my words). The archway was covered in grapevines. The view from the patio was amazing even in the rainy weather. I enjoyed the Zusa, a citrus blend. Not typically a sweet wine drinker, I had to try the Red-Headed Stepchild. Cane Creek is a beautiful venue and a great space for family/friend gatherings. One thing I found interesting is how the climate, much like Europe, causes each year’s crop of grapes to have unique layers of flavors. My only regret is due to the weather, we didn't stop by the Farmhouse Market. Outside food is permitted except on Fridays 6-8pm. During Aperitivo small plates are available for purchase and they have live music. Definitely will be a return visit for us.
