Scalloped Potatoes

This classic dish is one your can't go wrong with. Cheese, potatoes repeat!

Scalloped Potatoes


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Grease a 9*13 baking dish

  • In a small sauce pan melt the butter and stir in flour

  • Whisk in the milk and season with salt and cayenne pepper

  • Cook sauce on low until smooth and boiling.  Whisk occasionally.

  • Reduce heat and stir in 1 cup of cheese.

  • Place half of sliced potatoes in the baking dish.  Pour half of the cheese sauce over potatoes. Repeat with second layer of potatoes and cheese sauce. 

  • Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheddar on top and a little paprika.

  • Bake uncovered for 1 hour or until potatoes are fork tender.


  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes ( I used Russet with skins on)

  • 3 Tbls. butter

  • 3 Tbls. four

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • dash of cayenne pepper

  • 1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar, divided 1 cup and 1/2 cup

  • paprika
