Pesto Pasta in a Jar

This is the perfect way to have individual portions. Perfect for a picnic or trip to a winery.

Pesto Pasta in a Jar


  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. 

  • Cook pasta according to package directions, until al dente.

  • Drain reserving 1/2 cup pasta water and return to pot.

  • While pasta cooks make pesto. In a food processor blend basil, walnuts, Parmesan and garlic.

  • Slowly add olive oil in a steady stream.

  • Season with salt.

  • Add pesto and 1/4 cup pasta water to pasta and stir until creamy.

  • Add more pasta water until desired consistency.

  • Divide pasta among 6 Mason jars and top with feta.


  • 1 lb. penne or your favorite bite size pasta

  • kosher salt

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves

  • 1/3 cup raw walnuts, toasted (I used sliced almonds)

  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cups EVOO

  • 1 pt. miniature tomatoes, various colors, halved 

  • 1 cup crumbled feta
